48HOURS
Staff and students scoffed at the need for sleep, launching into the insanity of the 48HOURS Filmmaking competition. Starting at 7PM of Friday, students had to write, shoot and edit a short film incorporating the randomly assigned elements of: a gatekeeper, a sign, a whisper, and a bird's eye view shot. Congratulations to the Year 13 team, "Russian Horse" whose film Yassenwerfer was nominated for Best School Team in Wellington.
Matariki
This year's Matariki ceremony was particularly poignant given the inaugural public holiday it coincided with.
Senior Ball
The Senior Ball provided a welcome respite from red light restrictions at school, with students enjoying the opportunity to don their finery and mingle in the plush surrounds of Te Papa. Photos here.
Tedx- Youth
A group of Newlands students organised a TEDx Youth event on the Newlands stage. Months in the planning, it featured inspirational youth speakers from the Wellington region.
Day of silence
Once again we observed the Day of Silence, in a show of solidarity against homophobic and transphobic bullying.
Tough Guy/Gal
We took 42 Level 2 and 3 physical education students on our annual trip to Camp Wainui to compete in the Tough Guy Tough Gal event. A 6km mud run, made muddier by the rain! Even though the weather was challenging, everyone completed the course successfully. Ka mau te wehi!

Lip Sync
A perennial favourite on the school calendar is the annual Lip Sync inter-house competition.
