Celebration of Sports
Kicking off the end of year awards season was the Celebration of Sport event. Despite another Covid-19 affected year, there was still plenty of success to cheer about. Photos of the trophy winners can be found here.

Year 11 relay
To finish off Wā Ako in style, all the Year 11's made their way down to the bottom field to compete in an inter-house form class relay. Organised entirely by the students, they faced off in egg and spoon race, face painting, lyrics challenge and more. Congratulations to 11VT for your victory! We hope you enjoyed your pizza lunch.
Arts Awards
Continuing our annual celebration evenings, next up was a chance to relive the artistic highlights and recognise outstanding effort and achievement within the Arts. Polyclub
Poly Club really went for it this year, with multiple performances. Considering we started off the year unable to sing inside due to Covid restrictions, our student leaders created an awesome, dynamic bracket which showcased a variety of dances and songs from various Pacific Islands. A huge thank you to all supporters and organisers who made everything possible.
Academic Prizegiving
The school year culminates, for both the the senior and junior school, in the Academic Prizegiving evenings where we publicly acknowledge those who have achieved at the highest levels across the full spectrum of their academic studies including scholarship recipients and those who have rendered outstanding service to the school. Congratulations to all recipients, but in particular to the students featured below were the top achievers at each year level.

Year 9 Writing week
Year 9 core classes were tasked with creating a themed display showcasing a range of different written pieces in this annual competition. Congratulations to 9C4, whose soap opera themed "Cafe Underway" stood out to take this year's top spot.
Farewell Year 13
Year 13's Newlands College journey came to an emotional end with their final assembly followed by the traditional haka farewell and barbeque. The below video was played during the final assembly. Photos of the barbeque on the bottom field here.
New staffroom/Guidance block
After a year of ongoing building works it was very gratifying for staff to participate in the blessing ceremony to officially open the new staffroom/guidance block.
Year 10 Social Studies Quiz
The inaugural Year 10 Great Social Studies Quiz Extravaganza was held in the penultimate week of the term. Ākonga gathered together to celebrate their successes in social studies this year and to get quizzical!

2 Day Discovery
Now 11 years old, the end of year Discovery program provided junior students with a fun, alternative 2 days of learning. Horse riding, film making, D & D, soap making and many other hands-on learning experiences were offered by staff.
